Words from the Author:
Hockey players and parents will spend thousands of dollars this year developing physical skills to improve their performance on the ice. Yet many parents, players, and coaches fail to take the mental aspect of hockey into account. My recently published book, 7 Pre-Game Habits of Pro Hockey Players, expands on specific techniques and exercises that pros use to prepare themselves physically and mentally for games including: Visualization, Breathing, Controlling Your Emotions, Stretching, Games (hockey-specific for player development), Nutrition, and Routines. Every chapter can be used for quick preparation in the locker room or read together for an all encompassing overview for players and coaches.
My unique insights come from a place close to the game. Before a career-ending injury, I played collegiately at Notre Dame, as well as for the USA National Team in the 2000 World Junior Tournament. I also had the opportunity to observe my dad, former Islanders great Lorne Henning, who has spent 40 years in professional hockey and won four Stanley Cups as a player and coach.
