Small ice game, 1on1 battles, Backchecking |
Coach starts with pucks at the blue line and a line of players on either side. Nets are moved to the hash marks or boards in one end zone.
Drill starts with coach dumping puck into boards and first player in each line chasing and battling for it. Whoever comes up with it shoots at the net farthest from their line, while the other player attempts to check / backcheck the shooter. If the shot gets off, the backchecker turns and skates the opposite direction and gets pass from coach, while the "winning" player rejoins the back of his line. The next player in that line has to start out chasing down and trying to catch and battle with the previous backchecker.
In each case, the "losing" battler turns and gets the head start towards the opposite net with the pass from the coach.
