Standout Jean-Sebastien Giguere and more than capable backup Jonas Hiller give the Ducks one of the top goaltending tandems in the NHL. The defense, led by former Norris Trophy winners Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger, figures to be as good as anyone's. Center Ryan Getzlaf and right wing Corey Perry lead a high-octane top line. The checking unit, headed by center Samuel Pahlsson, is outstanding, and there are more than enough capable energy line-type players.
The key question in Anaheim, just as it was last season, has to do with a productive second scoring line.

New Anaheim defenseman Nathan McIver skated out of the penalty box and into a breakaway, and beating Roberto Luongo at 22 seconds of overtime to give the Ducks a 4-3 preseason win over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night. It was McIver's first game for the Ducks after being claimed off waivers from the Canucks after Vancouver tried to send him down to the American Hockey League.

Selanne, the Ducks' all-time leading scorer, capped the hat trick with the game's final goal with 17:14 left in the third period. Brendan Morrison and Scott Niedermayer both had three assists for the Ducks (5-1-1), who have won three straight preseason games.
