Sabres Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) 10/06/08

The Sabres spent much of the last two seasons wondering which stars were leaving and when. Those questions are gone, which should keep the focus where it belongs—on the ice.

Buffalo locked up the core of its team for at least the next four years. Goalie Ryan Miller and forwards Derek Roy, Jason Pominville, Thomas Vanek, Jochen Hecht and Paul Gaustad were all signed to long-term extensions over the last 14 months. They readily admit the previous contract problems between the Sabres and since departed players Chris Drury, Daniel Briere and Brian Campbell created a lack of focus on the ice and in the dressing room, and they're glad to contribute to a new calm era.

It's an era they've been looking forward to for a while.

Ty Conklin made 21 saves, and Johan Franzen scored two goals in Detroit's 3-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on...
