The Dallas Stars didn't have as long of a summer break this time as they have in recent offseasons. And that's just fine with them. After three seasons' worth of first-round futility, the Stars broke through and had the postseason they thought they could attain.

So as they enter this season, they're feeling pretty good about their situation. True, they lost a few parts from that Western Conference Finals squad. But it's more about what they do have returning that makes them ready to see what they can do in 2008-09.

It's about their depth at forward. It's about Marty Turco ending all questions about his postseason work. It's about young defensemen who learned and played well through critical moments last season.
