We Finished What We Started
Team Rampage for the season, 2010-2011 had, had a wonderful season. After finishing the regular season with a record of 12-2-2, and placing second in the final standings the team then entered the State Championship tournament seeded second. With victories over Lexington Catholic, and Eastern High School/Louisville, the Rampage then set itself up for their first showing in the KHSHL State Championship, championship game. Although the Rampage lost that game ....competing in it proved to the team that we did in fact deserve to be there...and it was determined that night...that "we would be back". We had business to finish.
So with the history of the previous season's final game still in our minds as this season began, we all determined that this season should be the season that, "We Finish What We Started". This was not simply a team motto, it was a determined resolve to, "finish this, "to take what had been taken from us", the season before.
This team, "our team" hit the ground running and never looked back. The Rampage rolled through the regular season and finished it up, unbeaten, going 13-0-1 and securing the Rampage program its first KHSHL's regular season title.
The table was now set .....the stars were aligned....as team Rampage entered the State Championship Tournament seeded number one. They crushed St. X in game one. In game two Lexington Lafayette was no match for them either . On to the championship game they would go, once again. We all knew who we were hoping to face ....we all wanted that same team that had broken our hearts the season prior. We WANTED TRINITY! . As fate would have it....and the hockey Gods would allow...our wish came true and it was, "game on boys...Trinity here we come".
It was a heavy weight fight, through the first period.....and as the horn sounded ending period one...it was a draw, 1-1. In period two the boys took the lead, and then added to it with another goal. Trinity was bent, spent, and broken. And with the resolve made way back in September to "finish it" in their minds'....finsih it is exactly what "our" Rampage players did. They clamped it down, they buttoned it up.....and then just to make a point....stuck one more puck in the net in period three to bring the score to RAMPAGE 4 - trinity 1. It was over, it was finished ...all that was left was the celebration.
To say that I am proud of this group of young men that so powerfully carried out their determined will to succeed would be incomplete and understated. I am proud yes, but more importantly is the amount of respect for them, that I have. I respect their willingness to work hard at it...to never give up....and for honoring their pledge to ; "FINISH WHAT WE STARTED".
