Zone entry and backcheck

Diagrams

Description

Drill 1: X follows the pylons with a puck and O skates behind supporting. X takes the puck to the centre of the neutral zone and O takes the lane along the boards. They enter the zone (on-side) and the coach (C) either allows X to go wide or forces a delay to the boards. O must read what is happening and depending on that X has to do O has two options (1) bust butt to get to the net for a pass into the house or (2) hang back for a pass from the delay of X. In all cases, after the pass, X gets to the net for a rebound.

Drill 2: X skates as fast as they can with the puck and O provides backchecking pressure. Delay O according to skill level and age group. X should try to keep puck in front as to fend off the backcheck.
