This drill was created using HockeyShare.com's Online Drill Drawing & Practice Planning Platform.
Drill starts as 1 vs 1 puck race with 2nd players reacting.
(C) sends puck through NZ and all X's leave.
X1 and O1 are racing for the puck. X2 and O2 are reading the play and reacting to the win/loss of the puck.
In the diagram X1 wins the puck and X2 reacts to get open to space. O2 reacts and races to cover X2. X1 moves the puck then gets up ice. O2 is now defending and back checking.
Play it into the zone for a 2 on 2.
Notes: Can add a 3rd player by having the team who wins the puck (X in this scenario) leave once a puck winner is established and go to the opposite side of X2. So they're reading the "weak side" play.
Add scenarios where X2/O2 are actually lined up behind the opposite player. So now X1/O1 don't have strong side support initially and must react (can fake strong and cut back weak, hold puck and find mid seem etc).
