Net Protect Drill

Diagrams

Description

Two lines in opposite corners, have D in one line and forwards in the other. Pucks with the forwards. Setup 2 Dmen in position in the zone near the blue line.

Drill starts with forward passing the puck up to the closest defenceman near the blue line and then skating to position themselves in front of the net. On the pass from the forward a D will leave from the other line and also skate to the front of the net. The goal of both players skating to the front of the net is to battle for position in front of the net. While the forward and D who skated to the net are fighting for position, the 2 D up by the blue line are passing back and forth. On instruction from the coach, what ever D ends up with the puck at that time, will shoot the puck on the net. The forward will try to re-direct or get the puck in the net, the D will try to get the puck away from the front of the net.
