The Hunter

Diagrams

Description

This drill is a basic one on one.

The Defence skate the puck behind the net and look to make a PASS as soon as possible (ideally the far goal-post).

The Forwards are to ANTICIPATE and time their open-pivot so that they provide a target for the Defence as soon as the Defence clear the back of the net. TIMING is crucial...the Forwards must read the play and be in position to SUPPORT the PASS from the Defence. Forwards are to receive the pass facing up ice. This means receiving the pass on the backhand on your off-wing.

Once up ice, the Defence are to read and REACT to the Forward. The Forward is to skate through both face-off circles. The Defence are to establish tight gap control, while keeping the Forward to the outside of the ice. Forwards are to make a play towards the net. The Defence are to break-up the play.

Goalies are to work on their positional angles; goal crease depth; re-bound control and the directing of pucks to corners.

Notes: Once the drill is half complete, switch corners.
