1-on-1 Progression with Breakout

Diagrams

Description

D1 (and D2) start drill on coach's whistle, skating to center ice faceoff dot and pivoting backwards. Goalie will have placed a puck out in slot between each rep. D1 (and D2) picks up puck as F1 (and F2) leave line skating forward. D1 passes to F1 who continues with the puck towards the opposite end. D1 skates forward out of zone, and then pivots backwards to face incoming F2 for 1-on-1.

For progression, have 2nd forward line at O1. O1 can leave with F1, passing through neutral zone for 2-on-1 on D2.

Notes: Coaches may need to remind goalies to set up pucks each time, or help them with it, at younger age levels. Coaches should blow whistle after a save is made to keep the flow moving.
