Neutral Zone Regroup

Drill Diagram

Description

Three forwards start on the red line. Two defence start on the blue line. On the whistle, all players skate toward the offensive zone. The forwards curl at the blue line and start to skate toward the defensive zone (i.e. like a backcheck). The defence pivot at the red line and skate backwards. The coach makes a pass to one of the defence (who are skating backwards) and the second defence puts themselves into a supporting (hinged) position. The receiving defence player makes a D-to-D pass to their partner. The forwards read the play and begin to curl and the defence with the puck makes a pass into the neutral zone to a wide curling forward. The receiving forward becomes F1 and carries the puck wide into the offensive zone. The centre forward becomes F2 and enters the offensive zone in the supporting position. The far forward becomes F3 and enters the zone as the player tracks a path to the net. The players execute a zone entry and offensive play on the net. Coaches can provide pressure to forces passes and options.

Notes: It is critical that passes are made into an open area which can be received by the forward.
