Breakout Read "Reverse"

Drill Diagram

Description

The REVERSE Breakout is when the defenseman who picks up the puck begins to "WHEEL" and has strong forechecking pressure from his hip pocket. The defenseman skates to the nearest post behind the net when his partner yells reverse and the puck carrying D bounce passes the puck off the wall behind him to the defenseman who moves behind him from the slot to pick up the puck. This play only works if the puck carrying D has pressure tight on him "Hip pocket". This play works very well and usually provides wide open ice along the wall. This play is extremely effective vs the 2-1-2 forecheck and any extremely aggressive "attacking" forecheck.
