Continous 3 on 1 Backcheck Drill

Drill Diagram

Description

forward line starts off down on a 3 on 1 and make a play (at least get a shot away!) and maybe a rebound) after the make the play they all have to get below goal line or at least touch it before they can start to backcheck. The next forward line up will leave when the center jumps out with the puck and starts heading up the ice. Wingers need to have quick starts to be in good passing lanes with for Center. The backcheckers the should have their head up and be looking for open player to cover and communicate. you need at least 4 forward lines for this drill to be effective so use the 3 D as a forward line and the other D to play the 3 on 1 but switch up every few times.

Notes: with more D you can have 3 on 2 with 3 backcheckers. once all attacking players are covered extra backcheckers should be looking over their shoulder for extra attacker (D or extra forward) if no one is coming then they fill lanes and be ready for turnovers.

Tags: Centers stay tucked in behind the winger when you are up so the middle of the ice is clear, also have your center start with the puck after the shot is made but not too early so the backcheckers have a chance. backcheckers after they shoot on the 3 on 1 must all touch goal line before they curl back and back check.
