1-on-1 Out of Corner Battle Drill

Drill Diagram

Description

Players line up in the high slot. Coach dumps the puck into the corner. Two players race to win posession or defend if the other player gets to the puck first. It is the objective of each player to get the puck to the front of the net, shoot, and score, and simultaneously prevent his opponent from doing so. The defending player forces the puck carrier to the outside (box out)and/or engages the puck carrier with a stick or body rub-out.

Play is confined to a corner and players may not take the puck behind the net. Drill is over after a player scores or the puck is cleared out of the corner area.

Notes: This drill can be modified to add two extra players to play 2-on2.
