Description

Section 1 Backward skating W/Crossovers
- Know the skill of the players coming through
- For the stronger skaters introduce crossover starts and gain power and speed from continuing crossovers up the ice. (add pucks if they catch on quickly)
- Weaker skaters just practice backward skating with no head bob and good knee bend. Chest up, butt down.
Section 2 Skating Relay Races
- 2 Lines
- You can change the skill at the cone (stops, pivots, backward skating, forward skating, tight turns etc.)
- *add pucks with stronger skaters
Section 3 Puck protection along the wall
- Show players how to protect the puck with their body
- have one player with a puck and the other player trying to get it. Show them how to use their bottom hand to fend off the defensive players stick
- switch after 30 seconds. Then give 30 to 45 sec rest while giving feed back from what you saw.
Section 4 Game
- Depending on numbers (2v2,3v3)
- Can add 1 to 2 passes before scoring or each team member has to touch puck.
- Add two coaches in the game. Coach by modeling and "quarterbacking" the game.
- If you have extra players, get them passing back and forth in between shifts.
