Perpetual Half Ice 1-on-1

Drill Diagram

Description

Goalie starts with the puck and makes a pass to F1, who has come back into his own zone and 'opened up' (pivoting in order to keep eye on the passer and to remain a passing option). F1 skates up and around pylon in centre ice circle where he now becomes an attacking forward.

As F1 passed the blue line while leaving the zone, D1 steps out into the play and plays the 1-on-1 against F1. The 1-on-1 gets played until either a) F1 scores, b) the goalie covers the puck, or c) the D man gains control of the puck.

As F1 went around the pylon, F2 steps out of the line and follows the play into the zone. His job is to maintain the defensive positioning of a winger in his own zone while F1 and D1 play out the 1-on-1. F2 does not interfere with the 1-on-1.

In this example shown in purple above, F1 has taken a shot and the rebound went to the corner. F2 has positioned himself in a defensive position to take away the pass to the other teams defence man if this were a real game. When F2 sees that his defence man, D1, is going to get the puck, he opens up and to receive a pass. Once he receives the puck the drill has started again and he skates around the pylon in the neutral zone to become the attacking forward, while a new defence man D2 has stepped up to play a new 1-on-1.

After D1 makes the pass to F2, D1 and F1 are done and clear the zone quickly back into line.
