Drill Diagram

Description

Time:
12 mins (10 mins work / 2 mins rest & demo)
Goalies: in both nets stopping shots and minimizing rebounds while communicating to players on their team.

Description:
Black Team – Forwards will complete a “regroup” with the D through the neutral zone and top of their defensive zone. Black D will complete a D to D pass then hit 1 of the 3 F’s with a pass and the group of 5 will attack up ice.
Red Team – When the black F initially makes the first pass, the red D will skate forward towards centre ice to help with gap control after the black team has regrouped. The initial attack will be a 5on2 for black. After the black F completes the drills first pass to the black D, the 3 red X’s can start shooting in sequence (middle/side/side for goalie work). After taking a shot on net, the red X’s can back check up ice to help the red D with the 5on2 attack.
Key Points:
Gap Control – Red D need to step up and maintain a solid gap control rather than allowing the black team to gain even more speed before entering the zone.
Tracking / Communication – Red D will need to communicate and figure out how they want to set up while the back checkers are skating up ice. They will also need to communicate to the back checkers who to pick up or isn’t currently taken and where support is needed.

Notes: Start with D using their sticks upside down, then progress to proper sticks.
