Drill Diagram

Description

- Make sure the pylons, discs and nets are set-up exactly as the diagram shows - very important to utilize every inch of the ice during this drill.

- Start with 3 or 4 players lining up behind Gate #2, the rest of the players in Gate 1 corner. This makes sure that not all 15+ players start in the same corner.

- On the whistle 4 players will leave (one player from each gate)

* If leaving from corner (Gate 1): Player leaves his corner and does a tigh-turn around the pylon or disc at the blueline, redline and far blueline...he then shoots at the net in the far corner. He then goes to the back of the line in Gate 2 and waits his turn.

* If leaving from Gate 2: as soon as the player in front of him gets to the redline, he grabs a puck and weaves through the pylons or discs that are placed in the middle of the ice. He then shoots on the net that is near the corner he started in. He then returns to Gate 1 line.

- When the first player gets to the redline the next player goes - applies to Gate 1 and 2.

- Pylon players go around the pylons only and disc players go around the discs only.

- Variations: change what the player does when he reaches the pylon/disc coming out of Gate 1 (ie: reverse spin, bank pass off boards, behind back pass to himself, etc).

- This drill is all about ice management of the coaches. Pylons and discs will get knocked around so make sure the staff is quickly reacting. And keep pucks cleared from the middle of the ice, always have lots of pucks at each station.

Notes: * There is a variation of this drill where you eliminate the pylons and discs down the middle of the ice and it becomes a 1-on-1 drill. When the player gets around the third pylon/disc at the far blueline he is met by a dman who steps up from the crease area (Gate 2) and plays the puck carrier 1-on-1.

Tags: 4 nets with very little standing around. A congested drill which emphasizes puckhandling with your head-up.
