3 Zone Game

Drill Diagram

Description

Team O is attempting to score in their offensive zone and team X is attempting to score in their offensive zone. Pucks must move through all three zones to score. A puck cannot be passed from one offensive zone directly to the other. For example, if team X gets the puck in their defensive zone then they must pass to a team mate in the neutral zone who can then pass it down to a team mate in the offensive zone. Great drill for communicating, teaching kids to get open for a pass and for situational awareness. With three pucks being used they must always have their head on a swivel and pay attention to what is going on around them. Can be played with as many players as need be.

Notes: This drill can be adapted to full ice by using each zone lengthwise down the ice. Blueline in is one zone, blueline to blueline is neutral zone and other blueline in is the thrid zone.
