D take out drill
Description
This drill is designed to achieve 2 things.
First force the D to learn how to read and make plays in 1 on 1 situations
Second teaching F to be creative and force them to have a game plan before confronted by D
Set up as shown, on coaches whistle F skates out and around center ice tire with a puck, D takes off behind the net and up the boards reading and timing his approach to the man with the puck. The best play for the D is to skate his butt off and confront the F as far into the neutral zone as he can.
F makes a bounce pass off the boards to himself and turn around boards side tire and makes a break down the boards ( do not cut to the middle)
D confronts player with puck without regard to the puck at all, he is playing the man 100%.
F can make a bounce pass on the boards to himself again or work his way past the D, the D must separate the man from the puck period!!!!!!
Once the D & F have entered their battle the next F & D in line go doing the same drill on opposite side.
A coach will be in the area of the battle and will call out when its over, both D & F must sprint back into lines
