Starts & Stops

Drill Diagram

Animation #1

Description

This drill works on quick starts & stops rather then sweeping turns to teach players to stay close to the play.

All skating is done facing the stands. Players must be discipline in their leave time to keep this drill flowing and not have players running into each other, players must start with their sticks touching the center ice dot.

On the coaches whistle the first players sprint forward to the 1st dot in the drill, come to a power stop and reverse skating backwards to 2nd dot in drill. After the first 2 players have taken off everyone moves forward in the line with the next 2 players putting their sticks on the center ice face off dot. The next 2 skaters go when the skater in front of them reaches the first dot, again do not jump the drill as skaters will start bunching up.

When players reach the 2nd dot in the drill they do a backward power stop, they then sprint forward to the 3rd dot in the drill. Again once the reach the 3rd dot they do a power stop and skate backward to the 4th dot in the drill, from there they turn and sprint forward to get back in line switching sides
