Power Play 3 Up Top

Drill Diagram

Description

3 players set up in standard PP set up (O's) as shown.
2 Players are PK (x's) as shown.

X's are not allowed to leave the circle or pressure O's when the have puck possession and see crest, they are only to contain and must stay in good defensive position (between net and puck) within their circle.

Coach gives a puck to O and O can work puck around the circle or through the circle with back door passes.

Primary shot should come from the top, but secondary chances and options can be used.

If O fumbles the puck, turns their back to X or loses possession after a shot, X's are encourage to attack puck (allowed outside the circle now) and create turnover.

Coach continues to give O new pucks 2 - 4 times before changing players.

Done on both sides at once in a small area on purpose.

Key Teaching Points

- Once O's on sides set up the top O get to the net quickly for tips and rebounds
- Quick short passes
- ensure lots of support and always outnumber X when there is a turn over
