Agility Edge

Drill Diagram

Description

In this simple agility drill, three players will be assigned to each circle on the ice to create a perfect work to rest ratio.

X1 - Will start at the face-off dot of their circle and take explosive strides out towards the edge of the circle and stop. Then skate backwards along the outside of the circle until the halfway point and stop. Skate forward with explosive strides around to the top of the circle again and stop. Skate backwards back into the face-off dot of the circle and stop. X1 then will do alternating cross overs to the left and all the way back to the middle of the circle and stop. X1 then will repeat the same drill on the opposite aside of the circle.

This drill looks and sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is. When done correctly each complete cycle should take between 20 - 25 seconds.

Important player notes should include: Head up the entire time, square shoulders and high knees when completing crossovers. As players become more and more comfortable with this agility drill you may add puck handling during the drill for more of a challenge.

Always important to have an assistant coach working with your goaltender during drills not geared for them.
