Description

Time:
12 mins (10 mins work / 2 mins rest & demo)
Goalies: in both nets stopping shots and minimizing rebounds while communicating to players on their team.

Description: Forwards line up between the blue line and ringette line (top of circles) while Defense line up between the ringette line and hashmarks. Coach shoots puck below the goal line. Forwards will forecheck the puck setting up in a 1-2 approach. Forecheckers will try to score. Defenders will attempt to work together to skate the puck past the ringette line. If the puck isn’t directly passed or skated past the line, coach will throw in a new puck and the drill continues.

Key Points:
Communication – Players need to use strong communication throughout this drill whether on defense, offense or forecheck.
Positioning/Pressure – Whether your team is forechecking or defending, positioning is going to be vital. It will be the difference between success or failure. Pressure needs to be immediate. Don’t hesitate or you’ll be late!
Stickwork – The lead forechecker will see added value keeping a stick-on puck focused approach while pressuring the puck. The other 2 forecheckers will see added value from an active stick approach (using stick to randomly take away passing lanes to entice a mistimed pass).

Notes: Start the forecheckers off w/o sticks. Then add sticks but upside down. Then finally allow them proper sticks.

*Can also be reverted to take the defensive approach.
