# Adding & Importing Athletes

Athletes belong to your organization, so everyone in the organization works from the same list. Free accounts can have up to 22 athletes per organization. Premium accounts have no limit.

## Step 1 — Add an athlete

Go to **Perform** and click **Add Athlete**.

- **First Name**, **Last Name** and **Birth Year** are required.
- **Headshot Photo** is optional: JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 5MB.

## Step 2 — Import a roster

Go to **Athletes → Import Athletes** and choose a source.

**From Team Roster**

1. Pick a team under **Select Team**.
2. Set a **Default Birth Year**. It is used for any player without a birth date on file.
3. Check the players you want and click **Import Selected Players**.

**From CSV**

1. Click **Download Template**.
2. Fill in `first_name`, `last_name`, `birth_year` and, optionally, `notes`. Birth years must be between 1950 and this year.
3. Drop the file in. Perform checks the file and shows the first 5 rows. Rows with errors are skipped.
4. Click **Import Athletes**.

**From 10k Pucks**

1. Pick a source: your own players or one of your 10k Pucks teams.
2. Select the players and click **Import Selected Players**.

Turn on **Link athlete accounts** if you want each player to follow their own results in Perform. Players can unlink at any time.

On every import you can use **Assign Classifications** to put all the new athletes into a group straight away.

## Step 3 — Group athletes with classifications

Classifications are groups such as Varsity, U14 or Defense. An athlete can be in more than one.

To create one, go to **My Organizations**, then **Settings → Classifications**, and click **Add Classification**. Choose a name and colors.

To assign athletes:

1. On the athlete list, check the athletes you want.
2. Click **Assign Classifications**.
3. Choose **Add to existing classifications**, **Replace all classifications** or **Remove selected classifications**.

You can also set classifications on one athlete with **Edit Athlete**.

## Step 4 — Archive, clear or delete

Each of these is in the athlete's actions menu, or on the bulk action bar when you check several athletes.

- **Archive Athlete** – hides the athlete from your main list but keeps everything. Use the **Status** filter set to **Archived** to find them, then **Restore Athlete** to bring them back.
- **Clear Testing Data** – permanently deletes the selected athletes' test results, dashboard settings, share links and import history. It keeps their profile, classifications and headshot. You must type **CLEAR DATA** to confirm.
- **Delete Athlete** – permanently deletes the athlete and all their results. There is no trash or undo. You must type **DELETE** to confirm, or **DELETE ALL** for a bulk delete.

## Good to Know

- Archived athletes still count toward the Free 22-athlete limit, and their results still appear in leaderboards and reports. Delete athletes you no longer need if you're on the limit.
- Imports are all or nothing against your remaining room. On Free, if a file has more athletes than you have room for, nothing is imported.
- Team Roster and 10k Pucks imports skip players already in the organization. CSV imports do not check for duplicates, so importing the same file twice creates two copies.
- Only editors, admins and owners can add, import or remove athletes. Viewers can look but can't change anything.

## Tips

- Import from a team roster when you can. Names come across exactly as they are on your team, and running it again won't create duplicates.
- Set up classifications before you import, then assign them during the import.
- Use Archive for players who have moved on. Their history stays available if they come back.
