Check-Ins are short forms your athletes fill out themselves, such as a daily wellness log, a weekly sleep check or an intake form. They're kept separate from the test results you record. Check-Ins are a Premium feature.
Athletes only see Check-Ins after they've claimed their profile. See Claiming an Athlete Profile.
Step 1 — Create a Check-In
Go to Athletes → Check-Ins, then click New Check-In.
- Title and Description – what athletes see at the top of the form.
- Frequency – how often an athlete can submit: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, One-time or Anytime.
- Audience – All athletes, or Specific classifications (pick one or more).
- Starts On / Ends On – optional dates for when the Check-In is open.
Click Create Check-In. New Check-Ins start as Draft, so athletes don't see them yet.
Step 2 — Add questions and content
The builder opens. Click Add block and choose a question type:
- Scale question – pick a number on a scale (for example 1–5 or 0–10), with optional labels for the low and high ends.
- Number question – a number with an optional unit (such as "hrs") and optional min and max.
- Time question – athletes enter mm:ss (for example 7:52).
- Text question – a written answer.
Every question has a Question label, optional Help text, a Required box and a Show trend on athlete profile box. Text answers can't be shown as a trend.
You can also add headings, text, callouts, dividers, images, files, links, YouTube videos and items from your Vault. Use Upload to add an image or file from your computer.
Click Save when you're done.
Step 3 — Preview and publish
Click Preview to see the form exactly as athletes will. The inputs are disabled in preview.
When it looks right, go back to Check-Ins, click the gear icon (Edit settings) and set Status to Published.
HockeyShare doesn't notify athletes when a Check-In opens, so let your team know it's there. Athletes find it on their profile under View Check-Ins.
Step 4 — Review responses
On the Check-Ins list, click the table icon (View responses) next to a Check-In, or click Responses at the top of the builder. You can also open an athlete's profile: the Check-Ins card lists their recent responses, and View all responses opens the responses page.
The responses page shows a Compliance Matrix: each athlete in the audience, with the last 7 days, weeks or months. A One-time or Anytime Check-In shows a single Submitted column. Click any submitted cell to read that response.
Click Download CSV to export every response.
Step 5 — Watch trends
For questions marked Show trend on athlete profile, the athlete's profile shows a Check-In Trends card with:
- the last answer
- the 7-day average
- the 30-day average and the number of entries
- an arrow showing whether it's trending up or down compared with the prior 30 days
Athletes see the same card on their own dashboard.
Good to Know
- Athletes can submit once per period (day, week or month) and can update their answer until that period ends. Anytime Check-Ins can be submitted as often as they like.
- A Check-In with responses can't be deleted. Archive it instead; its responses are kept.
- Editors, admins and owners can build Check-Ins and see responses. Viewers can see the list but can't edit.
- If the coach account that owns the athlete drops below Premium, athletes can no longer open their Check-Ins until it's upgraded again.
Tips
- Keep it short. Three or four questions a day gets far better compliance than ten.
- Use a Scale question with clear end labels (for example "Exhausted" and "Fully rested") so every athlete reads the scale the same way.
- Turn on Show trend on athlete profile for the one or two numbers you actually want to watch.
- Use classifications as the audience to send a goalie-only or team-specific Check-In.
