# Entering Test Results

Perform gives you four ways to record results. Pick the one that fits the day. One-off retest? Add it on the athlete's page. Full testing session? Use Grid Entry or Test Day Entry. Results already in a spreadsheet? Import them.

You need **Owner**, **Admin** or **Editor** access in the organization to enter or change results. Viewers can see results but can't record them.

## Before you start

- Set up your metrics first. See [Setting Up Metrics](/support/kb/perform/setting-up-metrics).
- **Measurement** metrics take a plain number in the metric's unit (for example 62.5 for cm).
- **Time** metrics take seconds (for example 4.85). Times over a minute can also be entered as m:ss (for example 5:30).

## Option 1 — Add a single result

Use this for one athlete and one test.

1. Open the athlete from **Athletes → View All Athletes**.
2. Click **Add Result**.
3. Choose the **Test/Metric**, enter the **Value** and pick the **Test Date**. You can backdate results for older testing.
4. Add **Notes** if you like, then click **Record Result**.

## Option 2 — Grid Entry

Grid Entry is a spreadsheet view: athletes down the side, your metrics across the top, and every result for one test date.

1. Go to **Metrics & Data → Grid Entry**.
2. Under **Filter Athletes**, choose **All Athletes**, **By Classification** or **By Birth Year**.
3. Pick the **Test Date**. Every value in the grid is saved with this date. Dates that already have results show under **Dates with existing data**; click one to load it.
4. Click **Load Grid** and type values into the cells. Changed cells are highlighted, and a cell with an invalid value shows a validation error.
5. Click **Save All Changes**.

Existing results for the selected date load into the grid, so you can fix them in the same place. If you clear a cell that had a saved result and click **Save All Changes**, that result is deleted.

## Option 3 — Test Day Entry (phone or tablet)

Test Day Entry is built for the rink or the gym. You pick one test and tap through the roster on a large number pad.

1. Go to **Metrics & Data → Test Day Entry**.
2. Pick the **Metric** and the **Test Date**.
3. Optionally tick **Classifications** to test one group. Leave them all unticked to include every athlete.
4. Tap **Start**.
5. For each athlete, enter the value and tap **Save & Next**. Use **Prev**, **Skip** and **Next** to move around, or tap the athlete's name to search the roster and jump to anyone.

The counter at the top shows how many athletes have been tested. An athlete who already has a result for that test and date is marked **Already Tested**.

### Working without a signal

Each entry is saved on the device first and then sent to HockeyShare, so a weak connection at the rink won't lose your results.

- Entries waiting to upload show as **pending**. They send automatically when the connection returns.
- Open Test Day Entry at least once on that device while you're online. After that it can reopen without a signal.
- If you're signed out partway through, tap the banner to sign back in. Your entries are kept and sync afterwards.

## Option 4 — Import from a spreadsheet (Premium)

Importing results is a Premium feature. It works best when testing was recorded on paper or in another program.

### Step 1 — Export the template

Go to **Metrics & Data → Export Template**.

- Choose **All Athletes**, **By Classification** or **By Birth Year**.
- Tick **Include notes columns** for a notes column next to each metric, or untick it for a simpler file.
- Click **Export Template**.

The CSV has **Last Name**, **First Name** and **Birth Year** columns, followed by one column per metric.

### Step 2 — Fill it in

Enter each athlete's values. Leave a cell empty if the athlete didn't do that test; empty cells are skipped.

### Step 3 — Import

1. Go to **Metrics & Data → Import Results**.
2. Pick the **Test Date**. It applies to every result in the file.
3. Click **Choose CSV File** and select your file (CSV only, max 5MB).
4. Optionally tick **Create new athletes automatically**. Rows for athletes who aren't in Perform yet are then added using Last Name, First Name and Birth Year.
5. Click **Import Results**.

If a row has a problem, the import lists it by line number and imports the rest. Common causes:

- the athlete name doesn't match exactly
- two athletes share a name and the row has no Birth Year
- a metric column doesn't match a metric name

## Fixing mistakes — Edit Data

1. Open the athlete and click **Edit Data**.
2. Click any cell to change its value, then click **Save Changes**.
3. To move results to another date, tick them and click **Change Date**.
4. To remove results, tick them and click **Delete Selected**, then type **DELETE** to confirm. Deleted results can't be recovered.

## Good to Know

- Importing the same file again won't double your data. Results already recorded for that athlete, test and date with the same value are skipped, and the summary shows how many.
- In Test Day Entry, an **Already Tested** athlete shows their saved value. Tap **Save & Next** without changing it to move on. Entering a different value saves it as another attempt; it doesn't replace the first. Fix typos in **Edit Data**.
- Imports are limited to 20 per hour.
- Grid Entry, Test Day Entry and imports all respect your plan's athlete limit. See [Adding & Importing Athletes](/support/kb/perform/adding-and-importing-athletes).

## Tips

- On test day, give each station its own phone running Test Day Entry for one metric. Results from every device land in the same organization.
- Use Grid Entry the evening after testing to check the whole session at once.
- Export the template right before testing so new athletes and metrics are included.
