Playbook Content Blocks Explained

Playbook Content Blocks Explained

Everything in a playbook is a content block. Each block holds one type of content, and you can mix them in any order. This guide covers every block in the builder's Content Blocks sidebar.

All playbook content blocks grouped into Text, Media, HockeyShare and Layout

Text blocks

  • Heading and Subheading – titles that break your playbook into sections.
  • Text – paragraphs with basic formatting.
  • Bullet List and Numbered List – one item per line. Use numbered lists for sequences, like the order of a breakout.
  • Callout – a highlighted box with an optional title. Choose a Style: Tip, Warning, Key Point or Info.

Media blocks

  • Image – upload a photo or whiteboard picture. Add Alt Text, an optional Caption, and choose a Display Size from Small to Full Width.
  • Video – upload a video file. Choose whether it shows controls, autoplays or loops.
  • YouTube and Streamable – paste a video link to embed it.
  • Live Diagram – an animated drill diagram. Only drills with an animation appear in the list.

HockeyShare blocks

These pull in content you already have in HockeyShare, so you don't have to rebuild it.

  • Hockey Drill – pick one of your drills. Its diagrams, animations and video come with it. You can edit the description for this playbook; Reset brings back the drill's original text.
  • Practice Plan – embed one of your practice plans.
  • Vault Item – add an item from your Vault, such as a file or link.
  • Collection – embed one of your collections. It always shows the collection's current contents.
  • Video Clip – add a clip or playlist from your Clips library.

Layout blocks

  • Two-Column – put two things side by side. Each column holds text or an image. Columns stack on phones.
  • Line Combos – list your Forwards, Defense and Goalies. If the playbook is attached to a team, choose it under Roster source to fill in names from that team's roster. You can always type names yourself.
  • Divider – a line between sections, with optional text.
  • Link – a link to any web page.
  • File – attach a document such as a PDF.

Good to Know

  • File and Practice Plan blocks are skipped in Presentation mode.
  • Video Clip blocks play only while the playbook owner has a Premium account.

Tips

  • Pair each Hockey Drill with a Callout listing the key teaching points.
  • Use Two-Column to put a whiteboard photo next to your notes.
  • Keep Line Combos in their own playbook so you can update them without touching your systems.
