Canada Cup
This is a flow drill that works on timing, breakout through the middle and head maning the puck.
Set up: pucks behind the net in opposite corners. 4 lines of players, 2 lines at center ice, two lines on opposite hash marks.
How it works:
To start the drill, one player from each line at center will skate in and shoot on the goalies.
The shooter then picks up a puck from the corner, and will pass to the player from the hashmark line, who has skated down around the bottom of the circle and opened up for a pass.
The shooter who just made the pass goes to the end of the hashmark line. The person from the hash mark line receiving the pass will pass the puck to the person from the center ice line who has skated down the boards, switched to the middle lane and is starting to come across the ice.
The person from the hash mark line goes to the end of the the center ice line and the person from the center ice line goes in and shoots and the drill continues.
Key Points:
1. Players should shoulder check to see where the next person is and to get in the habit of looking for opposition team players looking for open ice hits
2. Players should practice using both forward and backhand to move the puck quickly
3. Timing is very important - time it so the passes are short - the center ice person will start their skate just after the hash mark person starts
