Diagrams

Description

Breakout Option: Wheel Around Net. Walk the players through the breakout option and then gradually add passive pressure from coaches/player(s) to allow the players to be able to read the different forecheck pressure. Practice breaking out of both sides.

Key Points:

D1: (a) Start the breakout by Skating the puck from strong-side to the weak-side. Options: (1) Pass the puck to the winger along the boards, 2) Pass to the Centre in the middle, & 3) Skate the puck out of the DZone.

D2: Stand in front of the net and move from one side of the net to the other

Centre: Mirror D1 as they skate with the puck and become a passing option in case the winger is covered.

Strong-Side Winger: Watch and read which side D1 skates the puck. Skate from the inside out and present your stick and skates up ice when receiving the pass. After receiving the pass, skate off the board to allow for options: (1) Bounce the puck off the boards, (2) Pass the puck to the centre, & (3) Skate the puck out of the zone.

Weak-Side Winger: Support the middle of the ice as the puck is passed to the winger or centre. As the puck advances, skate wide through the NZ as a passing option for either the centre or strong-side winger.

Notes: - alternate sides every breakout attempt
- have players try different positions
