Skating transition and accelerate

Diagrams

Description

To set up drill you can place cones on the dots on both sides of the rink or if without cones can just use the dots as landmarks.

Players are split in two groups in opposite corners, Diagram 1- on the whistle the player will x-over start and skate to first cone come to full stop facing up ice. The player will then immediately x-over start and accelerate in straight line to the boards and come to complete stop again facing up ice. The player will continue sequence as illustrated.

In Diagram 2, the player will do the same except for stopping will perform a tight turn and proceed as illustrated.

Notes: This drill should produce lots of reps and players should rotate through each sequence 4 times (down the ice is one)producing 8 reps per sequence x 4 sequences = 32 reps

The progression for this drill can be to:

1. Perform backwards
2. Transition from front to back wards skating at each cone
3. Use and handle puck
4. Add shot to end of drill
5. Add a pass with coach
