Box +1 Passing

Diagrams

Description

This is a very basic drill to teach the Box +1 defensive system.

Defensive players (RW, RD, C, LD, LW) rush back to the zone and position themselves into Box+1 defensive zone coverage.

Once players are back, X's run the Polish passing drill to make the Box +1 move. E.g., puck is kept to outside.

X in front of the net screens the goalie to give goalie practice tracking the puck. X in front gets a shot.

Once the X's have cycled through then the players switch.

Progressions

1) keep things very controlled. Defense only changes position.
2) offense must remain outside but can take shot at any time
3) offense free to move. must make 2 passes before shooting
