Drill Preview

Description

Time:
12 mins (10 mins work / 2 mins rest & demo)
Goalies: in both nets stopping shots and minimizing rebounds.

Description: RW starts drill by passing back to red D who moves the puck quickly across to black D. Black D sends the puck up to LW on the wall just past the red line.
After making pass, red D takes off up the middle and drives for strong side post. C regroups and turns outward, driving the back side post. RW swings behind red D and covers behind and up to blue line. LW receives the puck on the wall and looks to send the puck forward to the cutting red D in the offensive zone. LW then skates to the high slot. Black D skates up to the blue line creating more support and options.

Key Points:
Movement - Both puck and player. There cannot be hesitation, once the puck is moved back to red D everything is set in motion and nothing stops until the attack on net is complete. Passes need to be leaving right after they are received and hard. The attack needs to be done at high speed to push the D apart, creating space in the offensive zone.
Timing - along with having to move at high speed, players will need to time their movements and attacks so that there is support in case of breakdown or if the entry is successful and there is a play on the net.

Notes: Progressions:
1. Add in defenders w/o sticks
2. Then with upside down sticks
3. Then with normal sticks
*each progression can also have a "pressure" progression. Start with no pressure, then 50%, then 75%, then full.
