Description
Time:
16 mins (14 mins work / 2 mins rest & demo)
Goalies: in both nets stopping shots and minimizing rebounds, communicating with teammates letting them know about pressure. The goalie should also stop the dump in behind the net for the D.
Description: 5 players line up in neutral zone. C dumps puck behind net, red D picks up puck & stops behind net. LW & RW will skate down slot and swing outwards at the goal line, bringing them up the half walls with speed. LW & RW need to time their swing together to create multiple targets for the forecheckers to cover. C & black D will swing outwards mirroring LW & RW, but in a "second wave" creating more targets for red D and also creating support in case of a turnover. Red D will step out from behind the net and look to hit 1 of the 4 targets that should've been created. If not targets available, red D should skate the puck out of the zone.
Key Points:
Timing - LW & RW need to time their swings, just as C & black D need to on the second wave. Timing being off will lead to breakdowns, players need to regroup to create support if the breakdown occurs.
Passing - passes need to be crisp and on target; first targets should be the wingers that are steaming up the half walls with speed.
Awareness - Need to understand & anticipate when things are breaking down & if you as a swinging option need to get back into your zone and help red D with other options or support.

1. Add in forecheckers and D w/o sticks
2. Then with upside down sticks
3. Then with normal sticks
*each progression can also have a "pressure" progression. Start with no pressure, then 50%, then 75%, then full.
