One-on-one w/ quick starts

Diagrams

Description

F1/D1 and F5/D2 start at the same time on coaches whistle.

F's are on the blue line, D's start at the faceoff dot.

Forward skates full speed along the boards trying to "burn" the defender wide. His goal is to get around the D and in on net.

Defender's goal is to keep the forward along the boards and not open up the middle of the ice, while also not getting burned along the boards. If they end up in the corner and battle for the puck, that's a win for the defensemen.

Unless a quick shot is taken, let players battle down low for 10-15 seconds max until next group goes.

Notes: You can lengthen or shorten this drill as you see fit.
