Ice Time #4 Dump Puck Battles

Diagrams

Description

1st Half. 1 on 1. Coach asks one kid from each line to approach the top of the circle pylons. Rest of the kids are lined up behind bluelines. Coach feathers puck to the corner. X and O race to the corner to battle for possession.

2nd Half: Same but 2 on 2.

Possession changes: If the puck is stolen on a CLEAR takeaway, coach to instruct kids to skate (1 on 1) or pass (2 on 2) the puck past the hashmarks before attempting to score. This will avoid tap-ins or rebounds.

***Evaluators should watch not only for player winning battle, but to see if the loser anticipates the loss and then positions to cut off the angle to the net.

***Evaluators to additionally watch during 2 on 2 for kids that can find both open ice or the open player to pass to.
