PK D-Zone Defending the Overload PP formation

Diagrams

Description

Assuming Puck is at the point on the strong side.

Strong Side F - Stops D to D pass, Squeeze puck carrier to the wall forcing a pass down the wall. When puck moves go back to the middle of the ice with stick to the inside in passing lanes.

Strong Side D - Anticipates pass and attacks player on 1/2 wall. If he is late puck will likely get moved down low. He then moves back to the middle with stick to the inside in passing lanes.

Weak Side D - Anticipates pass down low and closes on forward down low.

Weak Side F - Must rotate down and cover the most dangerous man in the slot.

* If there is a shot on goal all players will collapse to the front of the net

Notes: * Keep puck on strong side and engage in 1 on 1 battles

** If there is a 2 on 1 we want it to be as far away from the puck as possible. i.e at the point

*** PP will always send 2 men to the battle. If the battle is below the top of the circle we want the battle to be even. i.e. 2 vs 2, most likely leaving a 2 on 1 at the point and a 1 on 1 in the slot.
