Battle Royale

Diagrams

Description

Coach starts this drill in the corner. Forwards are lined up outside one blue line with pucks, D start on opposite side, opposite blue line closest to coach.

Coach fires a puck around the boards and out to the blue line. Green D rushes to keep the puck in on opposite boards. Blue D slides along the blue line to the middle.

At this time, first two forwards in line collect pucks, and move in for 2 rapid shots on net.

Green D who stopped the puck (can fake shot and then) passes to blue D for the shot.

Red and Orange forward who shot collect puck from corner and start out of the zone passing back and forth. They can stay apart, or at higher levels perform "criss cross as the move to and through the neutral zone.

Green and blue D skate out of their zone to meet oncoming forwards, pivot backwards and play them back into their zone two-on-two.

Once there has been a good scoring chance, or the D take the puck off the forwards, those 2 D-men and 2 forwards move to the slot and begin battling for position.

The next two D-men in line prepare to go, and coach again fires a puck around the boards. Original 2 forwards and D are still battling in front. One new D stops the puck and again fires a pass to the D half-way, who shoots on net, while the original 4 players continue to battle for screens, tips, rebounds, etc.

At this time, the next two forwards have shot in the other end and are starting back.

The original 4 players leave the zone and get back into their lines after the shot from the point. Now you have 2 new forwards coming in 2-on-2 on the two new D.

DRILL CONTINUOUS FLOW...

Notes: Drill looks and sounds more complicated than it is. Very effective battle drill that simulates some actual game type scenarios with good continuous flow.

You will notice I have also put a second coach outside the blue line opposite the D. This coach will stop any pucks the D can't get to in time and leave it there for the D-to-D pass and shot.
