Umbrella/Box

Diagrams

Description

UMBRELLA - On the umbrella, move the puck with control and find the pass in front or the open shot. X3 or X1/X3 should practice dropping down to the outside hash marks to look for a pass in front and draw the D over. If D comes over and no pass in front is open, X4/X5 drops to the corner for the pass from X1/X3.

Wait for D to commit to corner and X1/X3 charge the net looking for a give and go pass from X4/X5. If no pass X4/X5 moves up to the hash and re-establishes the umbrella.

BOX - Playing the box it important to keep the box clear. Other key point for the players is that we only give chase/challenge IF X is in a good scoring position. Down in the corner, on the has marks or corner blue lines are not a threat...let them sit there with the puck. If X tries to shoot into the front of the net, close up the box and physically move the X in front of the net out of the play.
