Description
Pass and Shoot
P1 skates up the boards and circles back towards net before blue line, P2 passes to P1. P1 makes play on net. P2 then starts and receives pass from P3.
Encourage tape to tape passing, being ready for pass and follow with net drive.
Protecting the Puck
Have players pair up, P1 has a puck with P2 lined up behind him. P2 tries to get the puck from P1, P1 uses his body and footwork skills to prevent P2 from getting the puck. Player with puck can only pivot and use his body to defend.
Encourage quick feet and body movement.
Figure 8
Players skate around pylons in a figure 8 pattern executing proper tight turn techniques. After the first few reps add pucks.
Shooting Drill
Players with pucks line up along the boards and practice wrist shots. Encourage proper technique such as weight transfer, follow through and hand placement. Add movement after a few reps.
Battle Drill
Players line up both sides of the net. Coach dumps puck towards boards. First player in each line skates to retrieve puck, first player to puck attempts to drive to the net to score, other player defends. If possession changes then roles reverse.
Encourage puck protecting techniques, defending techniques and continuous effort.
