2-on-1 Double Transition

Diagrams

Description

- Defenceman at all four faceoffs dots (extra dmen wait in center ice faceoff circle and stay out of the way).

- Two forwards start in the corner with a puck.

- They skate down the ice parallel to each other making quick passes.

- One forward stays on the inside of the ice and the other stays relatively close to the boards (but no too close as he needs to have a good angle for his forward-to-forward transition).

- They pass the puck to the defenceman waiting at the far blueline faceoff dot.

- The forwards then complete a very efficient forward-to-forward transition and receive the puck back from the dman.
(they now of course will be travelling back towards the corner they started in).

- The forwards then pass to the dman at the other faceoff dot (dman at the first blueline).

- They complete another forward-to-forward transition and attack 2-on-1 against the first dman they passed to (far blueline dman).

- Variations:

1-on-1 with a trailer: the forward that passes to the second dman goes deep in to the zone behind that dman while his winger takes the puck up the ice for a 1-on-1...he tries to catch up to become a trailer.

Dman Reverse: each time the dman gets the puck he does a quick head fake to his forehand and spins out to his backhand (Jesse Graham style).

Forwards Curl: instead of the forward-to-forward transition, they swing during each pass to the dmen.

Notes: - Idea of the drill is to have the forwards constantly moving their feet and not stopping and restarting, which burns energy and loses momentum during quick neutral zone transitions.

- It is also heavily designed for dmen to keep their feet moving and not to be stationary while waiting for passes. They work on gap control, angling and taking away the inside of the ice.
