Regrouping Drill

Diagrams

Description

Coach starts drill with pucks on the boards at centre.
Coach passes to any forward, who begins moving in towards end zone and passes to D, who immediately passes to D partner inside zone to "regroup". Wingers curl back out, and D passes to his choice of the forwards, who will start skating with puck in neutral zone, then pass to D in opposite zone. Forwards will "curl" and regroup with motion across top of zone. D pass D-to-D inside zone, and pass to forward of choice curling back out of zone. Forwards will now attack other end again, but "dump" puck into deep zone.

See diagram 2.

Goalie will stop puck and set up behind net. D will collect puck and pass D-to-D in corner as wingers go deep, cross, and start skating out timing for pass from D.

D starts breakout to winger, who tip passes to centre, who can either skate out of zone or pass cross-ice to wide winger. All 3 forwards now attack opposite zone against 2 D carrying and controlling puck (attack triangle).

Switch lines after every time through.

As an option, add in a forechecker/backchecker from next line to go for added defensive support.
