Mite Stations - Basic Drills 7

Description
Station 1: Puck Handling
Pucks in corner. X puck handles around cones. Be sure Mites are moving the puck side to side as opposed to shoveling the puck ahead of them. Be sure Mites are crossing over while they are stick handling and ensure you switch directions half way through the drill.
Station 2: Passing
O passes to X and beings to skate toward and around both X players. X passes to X and then X passes to O once he/she has cut through the middle. O proceeds to take shot on goal. Be sure Mites switch sides after 3-4 times.
Station 3: Competitive Play - Race for Puck
4 Mites line up on goal line. Skate backwards to blue line, turn and skate forward to chase puck which Coach passes out in front of them. Note, it's a 1:1 battle on each side, so each coach passes puck out in front, one for each group. The Mite that gets to puck first must stick handle the puck across the goal line.
Station 4: Shooting
Split Mites into 2 groups. First group shoots on goal, per diagram, while the other shoots against the boards. Coach passes from behind the net. Good technique here. Be sure Mite is bending his/her knees and shifting hips side to side when releasing the puck. the puck should start on the base of the blade. Once shot is released, be sure their stick is pointing toward the target.
Station 5: Skating
4-5 Mites line up at blue line. We will practicing edge work on this drill. The concept is to get the Mites to use both their inside and outside edges. Backward skating will also be integrated into this drill.
Station 6: Competitive Play - 1 vs. 1
O is offensive player and X is Defensive player. O tries to get in position for a pass from Coach. Be sure X is taking away pass and staying in front of O. And be sure is getting position so that he/she is in a position to get a pass. Once O gets possession, he/she goes in for a shot.
