Description

This drill is designed to have players work on doing a certain task rather then reacting to whats going on.

This is a regroup and all players must be able to recognize it as it is happening in game situations so they know what to do and where to go rather then just standing around waiting to see what the puck carrier is going to do.

Set up as shown, on coaches whistle drill starts with LW skating with the puck as if he were coming out of his offensive zone, LW then passes to LD while all 3 forwards come across the center ice line and curl back to go on the offense.

LD has 2 choices, pass cross ice to RD or cross the center ice line and dump the puck in himself. This is a read and react play on the D men when they get procession of the puck.Either play is correct and the forwards should all be in motion and going on the attack.

In this situation LD passes to RD and he moves forward and dumps the puck into the zone, dump ins are very critical part of the game and its very important to make sure it gets down behind the goal line at the very least. As soon as the D dumps the puck in the forwards go on the attack playing 2-1-2 system and the first player to the puck takes the the body of any defending player attempting to get the puck.

The second player moves in and takes the puck as the first player ties up the opposing player, it is key that the first player ignore the puck and just play the man, this can be difficult but it takes mental discipline. The 3rd forward moves into a goal scoring position as both D men also move int the zone taking up their offensive positions.

Many different things can happen from here, D to D pass, D return pass to F that passed it to him , shoot on goal and if there are no other options he can just dump the puck in deep again and the forwards start over again.

Once the attacking player have all entered the zone the next line quickly moves into position for next group to do the same drill just from the opposite direction.

Drill continues until goal is scored or when the coach blows the whistle to end drill, either way one of the players passes the puck to the winger that is closest to the boards and then drill starts over, do not wait for coach to blow whistle drill is already underway one the first group has ended.

As the new group is coming in one side of the ice the old group SPRINTS out of the zone and the drill continues.

Notes: Do not stand still and pass the puck.

Do your job when you don't have the puck as it will make getting the puck easier.
