Corner Race

Description

Coach dumps puck into corner (puck should not wrap boards)

- D and Coach race to corner, D established angle and position of advantage
- **takes a look to gauge opponent's speed and position**
- as approaching boards and playing the puck, D must initiate contact and protect themselves
from establishing correct body position & right gap from boards.
** COACH FORCES D TO PLAY THE PUCK WHILE ABSORBING BODY CONTACT AND USING CORRECT BODY MECHANICS**
- after initiating contact in position of advantage & winning possession, D quickly separates and moves up ice with possession

Notes: 3 DOs:
1) head up, see opponent & adjust accordingly
2) Initiate contact from position of advantage
3) Low center of gravity, head up, powerful foot position

3 Don'ts:
1) receive contact 2' or greater from boards
2) initiate/receive contact with head down
3)take straight path into boards
