back check drill

Diagrams     

Description

- Coach starts down ice with puck (roles can be swtiched)
- D begins had back check, active stick
** D does not initiate contact until equal with OR D-side of coach**
- upon contact, D either angles out and plays to outside, or checks for puck separation.
- Rep concludes when D wins possession & turns up ice, or beat by opponent

ACTIVE STICK, KEEP FEET MOVING, CHECK CENTER OF GRAVITY

Notes: 3 Dos
1) Skate hard toward net until equal or D-side of opponent
2) active stick & angle toward outside, maintain speed
3) keep feet moving after contact is initiated

3 don'ts
1) reach from behind opponent
2) stop moving feet
3) stick, hands, elbows elevated
