FIRST WHISTLE... A SIDE STARTS 1-VS-1
On coaches' whistle, player X on A Side with puck battles against player O on A side, trying to get the puck to the net and scoring. Player O will try to battle player X and take puck, at which point they can attempt to score, and player X will have to battle to defend.
Players X and O on B Side wait for second whistle. Coaches should whistle down Side A players once there is a scoring opportunity or puck gets defended away from players.
ON SECOND WHISTLE, B SIDE STARTS...
First two (A Side players) will now look for position to assist their partners on the other side (ie/ 2 "X" players vs 2 "O" players 2-on-2).
B Side O player will attempt to battle against X player and work way to net with puck, but can also pass to the other O player and work on give and go and cycling. Player X will try to take puck from player O and then X team can try to score.
At this time, the next two players waiting in line will move into the zone and get ready to get into position for next rotation through drill.
Coaches' whistle now stops the first set of players and the next ones start drill from beginning (A Side X vs O 1-on-1, etc)...
Notes: This should be a quick rotation drill with high energy and playing area "compressed" into corner and slot battles instead of players taking puck way out high into the high slot and blue line areas. Coaches should shout verbal commands such as "get it to the net", "quick shot", etc.
