3-point Regroup & Attack

Diagrams

Description

Drill is started in either end at coach's discretion.

PART ONE: DIAGRAM 1

On whistle, dark green and blue forwards start together. Green forward starts skating towards coach, then pivots backwards to accept pass from coach. Blue forward sprints to far blue line, then hooks quickly back and presents target for outlet pass from dark green forward.

At this time, two D have started skating backwards into the opposite end.

Blue forward gives pass to red D, who pivots towards orange D and delivers a cross-zone pass to orange D. Blue and dark green forwards hook at blue line and start regroup breakout towards other end, and light green forward jumps into middle to create 3-man attack.

PART TWO: DIAGRAM 2

Orange D now has 3 outlet options - dark green, blue and light green forwards. Regardless of who gets pass, forward who gets it will drive puck wide into zone. Other two forwards will create 3-point attack, with first forward going hard to the opposite side of the net, and last forward into the zone staying high in the slot.

The Coach who started the drill will yell either:

- "LOW"... puck carrying player will snap a hard cross-crease pass to attacking forward on opposite side.
- "HIGH"... puck carrier will slide a pass into the high slot for the late forward
- "SHOOT"... puck carrier will shoot on net low and hard to allow for rebound possibility for other forwards attacking
- "D"... puck carrier will delay and then pass back to defense now coming up to blue line.

Players will battle until a good scoring opportunity is had. Coach will now yell "REGROUP" or blow whistle.

PART 3: DIAGRAM 3

Forwards on opposite sides will now regroup and curl behind net. High slot forward will delay and wait for wingers to "criss cross" before following play.

Coach will deliver a short pass to the curling blue forward, and green forward will give an outlet option either direct pass or bank off boards.

3 forwards will now attack opposite end 3-on-2, again creating 3 options for puck carrier in opposite zone, this time against the pressure of 2 defensemen.

Notes: Players not involved in drill to stay tight to boards to allow maximum open ice puck movement.
