Gap Contol #1

Diagrams     

Description

X1 and X2 start drill at same time.
X1 has puck and skates up boards and tight turns around far pylon.
X2 skates up boards and transitions to backward skating around close pylon and becomes defender.
X2 maintains gap to try and force opposing player wide and out of scoring area.
X1 does his best to make a play on net.
X2 makes a decision on when to close gap and check opposing player.

Notes: Drill should be ran with all players having the chance to defend.
Tips for Defenders
Keep your eye on player not puck,there eyes and body language will give you an idea of what they are going to do.
Close gap when,
Play gets to deep into your zone,top of face off circle.
Player attempts to make their move, shoot or pass.
Player loses control of puck.
Player goes to back hand.
